Plants
Adenium obesum
A deciduous succulent with a bulbous trunk, oval-shaped leaves and bright white, pink or red flowers during the summer months and again before winter.
This succulent-type plant needs 3-4 hours early morning or late afternoon sun or 8 hours of bright indirect light. Keep the soil kept moist but not wet and never let stand in water. It needs well-draining sandy soil and allow for the top third of the soil to dry out before watering, ensuring water runs through thoroughly. Fertilize with a diluted (weak) liquid fertiliser during spring and summer. Prune just before winter after the flowers drop or before springtime. Propagation can be done from 15cm cuttings, dry for 2 days, then plant in succulent soil mixed with peat moss. Beware, the milky sap is poisonous.
Prone to root-rot and cold draughts.
